PARTY-GOVERNMENT ENGAGEMENTS: HAJIA ABIBATA MAHAMA ENGAGES NATIONAL OFFICERS AND STAFF AT PARTY HEADQUARTERS

The Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Company (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, on Thursday, October 13, 2022, paid a visit to the headquarters of the ruling New Patriotic Party. She was hosted by Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s General Secretary, with Mr. William Yamoah, Director for Finance and Administration; and Dr. Nyame Baafi, Deputy Director for Research of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The move for which she was eulogized by the NPP’s chief scribe was a sign of the gracious acceptance and response of the MASLOC boss to the party-government initiative of the NPP. The General Secretary showered her with praises for her support and the impact of her institution on, especially the businesses of women and other vulnerable groups who otherwise would hardly access any credit facility to shore up their businesses.

In a rather succinct address, Hajia Abibata Mahama recounted the Akufo-Addo-led administration’s commitment to sustaining micro enterprises, citing the disbursement of over 300 million Ghana Cedis since January 2017, in loans to brace micro enterprises across the country. She hinted that as part of its grand strategy towards poverty alleviation, government is determined to provide continuous respite to women-owned and other small businesses with sustainable loans.

Hajia Mahama, however stressed that government’s financial supports through her institution were not freebies to beneficiaries and were, therefore, expected to be repaid on schedule to keep MASLOC operational. She debunked assertions by propagandists that her outfit resorts to debt collectors to harass defaulters. “The process of debt recovery by MASLOC, as far as I am aware, is always in line with cooperate governance principles,” she clarified.

Concluding the conversation, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, urged the CEO and her outfit to intensify public sensitisation on the roles and functions of MASLOC. This, he indicated, would achieve buy-in amongst beneficiaries to voluntarily repay loans granted them.

Upon assumption of office barely three months ago, the Ntim-Kodua administration of the NPP instituted this policy of engagement to solidify party-government appointees bond and provide mutual assistance in fulfilling government’s programmes and interventions for the good of the Ghanaian people.

Following the introduction of this policy, the party headquarters has hosted some government appointees, and expects to interact with several others over the course of time.
