PARTY-GOVERNMENT ENGAGEMENTS: CEO OF DRIVER AND VEHICLE LICENSING AUTHORITY (DVLA) VISITS PARTY HEADQUARTERS

Mr. Kwasi Agyeman Busia, Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), on Thursday, March 2, 2023, paid a working visit to the national secretariat of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). His visit forms part of the Party-Government Engagements initiative introduced by the leadership of the Party to bridge the gap between government appointees and various stakeholders of the Party.

In his brief welcome address, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the NPP, reiterated the reasons for the Party-Government Engagements initiative, and lauded the DVLA boss for his visit.

Briefing national officers of the Party about his outfit, Mr. Busia noted that upon assumption of office in 2017, the DVLA has initiated several interventions to make the acquisition of drivers license less complex for every Ghanaian. He disclosed that before 2017, there were about twenty-six beauracratic processes before an applicant could finally be issued a drivers lincense by the DVLA. This, he noted, was a source of discomfort and inconvenience to several customers as they had to waste productive days and hours at various offices of the DVLA before being issued a license. He submitted that this was a major reason why several people patronized the services of “middlemen” popularly referred to us “Goro Boys” for license and other services.

Mr. Busia further intimated that by deploying technology and digitalization in conformity with global best practices, the Authority has successfully reduced the twenty-six stages of processes to only six, making it easier for people to acquire license. He also revealed that customers can currently renew their license in thirty minutes, a significant improvement in the Authority’s operations relative to past practices. Mr Busia asserted that the digitalization and technological interventions by the Authority has nearly collapsed the business empire of “middlemen” the goro boys as most Ghanaians prefer to directly transact with the DVLA.

Mr. Busia recounted other achievements of the DVLA and pledged the determination of his outfit to become a world-class State agency in line with President Akufo-Addo’s vision for a prosperous Ghana. As a member of the Party, he used the occasion to assure the national officers of his continuous support to the Party particularly in its quest to win the next general elections.

In his closing remark, the General Secretary praised Mr. Busia for his dynamic leadership which has resulted in the Authority’s recent successes and urged him to keep working hard to boost the Party’s chances of winning a-historic third consecutive general elections. Other national officers in attendance were Mr. William Yamoah, Director for Finance and Administration; Mr. Kwadwo Afari, Director for Protocol; and Mr. Stephen Forson, Deputy Director for Information Technology.
